Sarrisa Curry

Person with short hair and glasses smiling, wearing a black shirt with "The Parkinson's Exercise" design.
  • In 2006, Sarrisa’s family relocated from Madison, WI, to the Kansas City area, where she began her career at The Athletic Club of Overland Park (ACOP). Over the next eight years, Sarrisa took on various management roles, including Manager of Operations and Wellness for nearly five years.

In 2014 ACOP was acquired by a new owner and her position was eliminated. Sarrisa recognized the opportunity to change career directions and as a NASM-certified personal trainer with extensive experience in group exercise, she quickly found a role she enjoyed in the fitness industry. Her next stop was working with clients and leading classes at Prairie Life Fitness Center, Title Boxing Club, and Burns and McDonnell.

2015 was a pivotal year for Sarrisa. There was a growing interest in boxing for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). People found their way to Title Boxing Club in search of a class that might help them or their loved one. Rock Steady Boxing was born and became a groundbreaking approach in the medical community for managing the symptoms of this degenerative neurological disease. Sarrisa was intrigued by the potential benefits of exercise for those with PD.

  • As research increasingly supported the benefits of exercise for managing PD symptoms, slowing progression, and improving movement, Sarrisa and Josh acquired additional certifications in Parkinson’s-specific exercise formats. In 2019, they transitioned Rock Steady Boxing Kansas City LLC into a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, The Parkinson’s Exercise and Wellness Center. They officially dedicated their mission and space to supporting the Parkinson’s community.

Sarrisa is now serving as the President and Co-founder of The Parkinson’s Exercise and Wellness Center and Chair of the Development Committee. She brings decades of experience and knowledge of the human condition to adapt and overcome to those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. She has used her management experience to build an organization of competent, caring, and passionate individuals
