Urban Poling
Urban Poling is a full-body, low impact outdoor exercise class for people with Parkinson's Disease. Also known as Nordic Walking, this fighter-led walking group is an excellent way to improve walking endurance, balance, upper body strength, cardiovascular health and overall physical conditioning.
Nordic walking originated in Finland as a summer training routine for cross-country skiers but is now a great exercise that uses approximately 75% of your body's muscles, much more than regular walking requires.
Low-Impact walking with the use of walking poles can be beneficial for anyone hoping to add another layer of exercise to their Parkinson's fight!
These classes are hosted Mondays and Friday mornings at 9:00 a.m. We meet at Meadowbrook Park in Prairie Village at the top of the stairs by the Clubhouse and walk for 45 minutes.
*We will not walk if it is raining or below 55 degrees at 8:30am. Walking distance is based on ability and endurance. The entire walking loop is just over two miles but there are smaller loops that the course can be broken into. Go at your own pace! Walking poles will be provided or you can use your own.
