Mat Fusion
The Parkinson's Exercise and Wellness Center offers a low-impact exercise therapy in Mat Fusion. While the exercises vary, the principles of Fusion never change: centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing, and flowing. Classes are a mix of seated, standing, and chair work that are dedicated to enrichment, education and empowerment. This program is more approachable for people who don’t regularly exercise.
While other exercise methods focus on the motor symptoms of Parkinson's Disease, Fusion improves the brain-body integration by syncing breath and movement. A well-functioning nervous system sends messages through the brain to the spine and surrounding muscles more effectively.
Pilates is a low-impact exercise that focuses on strengthening the body through a series of precise movements and breath control. It has a positive impact on fitness, balance and physical function in PwPD.
